RIGID MACHINED STRUCTURE

Okuma's machined rigid frame construction incorporates a one-piece fully machined aluminum frame. These rigid aluminum bar frames are the ultimate in precision alignment and tolerances with greater pressure and torque than any other material used in our industry for frame materials. Okuma introduces these anodized frames on fly reels, baitcast reels, baitcast reels, lever drag reels, and star trolling reels.

T-BAR HANDLE

The patented T-handle design offers an ergonomically correct angle to provide an angler with maximum power with minimum fatigue. The T-bar takes full advantage of the natural dynamics of the human hand, wrist and forearm to help support the angler's power and endurance.

2-SPEED GEAR

Okuma's 2-speed technology from Okuma incorporates two sets of main gears and stainless steel pinion gear, allowing anglers the option of either a high-speed gear ratio or a low-speed gear ratio for maximum power and torque. Shifting gears is as easy as pushing a button or pushing a lever with Okuma's unique gear shift design to get the gear ratio you want.

LEVER DRAG DOUBLE FORCE DRAG

For extremely smooth and powerful drag, Okuma's Makaira lever drag is designed with a patented Dual Force Drag system. This drag system is specially designed to be mounted on the right side of the spool, designed around a drawbar drag system that keeps all mechanical mechanisms in precise alignment and exerts no pressure on the frame. This system works in conjunction with a custom designed thrust bearing, which relieves lateral load under heavy stress.

HELICAL CUTTING GEARS

Makaira lever drag reels use helical cut main gears and pinion gear. This process allows for better meshing of the gears, which equates to better smoothness of the gears. The angled teeth found in helical cut gears engage more gradually than straight-toothed or straight-toothed teeth. This allows helical gears to run smoother and quieter than spur gears. Spur gears cause impact stress and noise, due to hard meshing, and cannot withstand the same torque as helical gears because their teeth are receiving impact blows as they come together.

SILENT ANTI-REVERSE

Makaira's proprietary anti-reverse system offers a smoother, quieter feel. We pair this feeling with that of a Lexus when compared to other rollers on the market. Most of the reels on the market hide their rough gear quality from the noise and vibrations caused by the engagement and rattling of the anti-reverse pawls. Okuma's Quiet System is unlike any other 2-speed reel in the industry for smoothness. This anti-reverse system is supported by a 12-point dual point anti-reverse pawl system. The Makaira system is very simple in principle but the performances are extremely advanced. As the spool is turned forward, the anti-reverse pawls open allowing for frictionless and quiet retrieval. As soon as the handle is stopped or pulled back, the anti-reverse pawls are inserted into place by their sliding system driven by the drive shaft. The strength of this anti-reverse system is not just based on a dog spring like that of most of our competitors' coils. The sliding feature does not rely heavily on a dog spring system and is primarily controlled by the forward and reverse motion applied to the crankshaft through the movement of the angler turning the handle.

CRC

The corrosion resistant coating combines Okuma's proprietary HDG-II gear system, which offers exceptional anti-corrosion properties compared to standard gears, with a coating of Corrosion X HD on all internal and external parts. The CRC process actually penetrates and binds to the metal, which significantly helps towards long-term protection.
