Thanks to the bright 2.6 '' color transflective LCD display and the high sensitivity GPS receiver with the exclusive rapid coupling system of HotFix® satellites, the GPSMAP 78 series represents a new point of reference in the portable device market. Being a highly sensitive device, the GPSMAP 78s locates the position quickly and accurately and guarantees an optimal reception level in any environmental condition. The GPSMAP 78s is IPX7 waterproof, has a 1.7 GB internal memory and is equipped with a microSD ™ card slot for loading additional maps and a dedicated MOB (Man Over Board) button.
The GPSMAP 78s has an electronic compass with integrated 3-axis tilt compensation, which allows orientation towards the cardinal points even when not in motion and without necessarily keeping the device in a horizontal position. The barometric altimeter keeps track of pressure changes indicating the precise altitude. In addition, you can use this device to track barometric pressure over time and observe any changes in weather conditions.
In the device, a worldwide basemap with shaded reliefs is already installed, which can be optimized with the addition of cartography and optional features. Thanks to an internal memory of 3.5 GB and to the microSD slot, it is possible to use topographic maps, insert BlueChart® g2 nautical cards, or City Navigator NT® road data to create a route with an indication of the turns. The GPSMAP 78s also supports the BirdsEye ™ functionality for the integration of satellite images (by subscribing to the relevant subscription). In addition, this device is compatible with the free Custom Maps software, which can transform paper maps into downloadable electronic maps on the device.
The GPSMAP 78s allows you to share waypoints, tracks and routes wirelessly with other compatible Garmin devices.
The GPSMAP 78s software is compatible with the Garmin Birds Eye ™ service, which allows access by subscription to the largest worldwide database of satellite images, and is designed for the management of raster cartography generated by scanning paper maps through the application Custom Maps.
