Sera KH Test is used to simply measure the carbonate hardness in fresh and sea water. Sufficient for about 390 ° of KH. In case of excessively low KH values we recommend Sera KH / pH Plus usable in both fresh and sea water, or Sera Pond Bio Balance in the pond, in case of too high values we recommend filtering with Sera Super Peat only in the aquarium. The carbonate hardness (KH) helps to keep the pH value stable. It avoids changes in pH, caused for example by organic decomposition in the aquarium and in the ornamental pond or by the consumption of carbon dioxide by plants. An excessively low carbonate hardness is the cause of fluctuations in the pH value. KH values between 5 ° and 10 ° create optimal and stable conditions in the community aquarium and set the conditions for a luxuriant growth of plants.

Cichlids from lakes Malawi and Tanganyika require higher values. In the marine aquarium the KH value must be over 12 ° dKH. With the sera KH / pH-plus (in fresh water), the sera marin COMPONENT 2 Ca pH-Buffer (in sea water) or with the sera pond bio balance (in the pond), the carbonate hardness can be precisely adjusted. If you want to change the pH value and / or want to lower a high carbonate value (eg 21 ° dKH in the community aquarium), you can use sera super peat (in the freshwater aquarium).
