The masked inseparable
The Agapornis personatus or masked lovebird is a small parrot measuring approximately 15 cm, characterized by having a black face and head.
The plumage on the remaining parts of the body is variable in color depending on the different genetic mutations that have been obtained by captive breeders. The chest can be characterized by having a sort of white-grey on blue scarf that goes all around the neck.
Like all lovebirds, it is an easy bird to raise, inexpensive to purchase and maintain but which can give the owner and the family in which it finds joyful satisfaction. Due to the variability in colour, it can be nice to raise Lovebirds of different species in the same aviary and thus enjoy an ever-moving mosaic of a thousand colours.
Young subjects have lighter colors and are recognizable as young by having a dark part at the base of the upper raphotheca branch, i.e. the beak.
In nature, Lovebirds generally live in African savannahs and nest by building comfortable padded nests.
Even in cages they reproduce easily but in this case they must be bred in purity because at the time of mating they do not like mixed colonies.
