ROYAL BABY PYTHON
The royal python is one of the most timid and meek snakes ever. Easy to get scared, if frightened it tends to hide the head under the body first and then roll up on itself forming a ball. Not surprisingly, in America, the common name of the Python regius is not Royal python, but Ball python.
The Royal Python is a small African python that mostly inhabits the grasslands and savannahs of central-western Africa. Being a purely terrestrial and nocturnal animal, it spends its days hidden in underground burrows, activating at dusk to go out or hunt its prey.
Its average length varies from 130 to 150 cm.
It has a slightly stocky and massive body and the head well distinguished from the latter thanks to the thin neck. Like many pythons, it has pericloacal spurs, thermoreceptor dimples and vertical pupil eyes typical of nocturnal animals.
Its livery has a background that varies from light hazel to dark brown and a black pattern that crosses the snake's back and descends along the sides with bands of variable thickness. The head is dark and bordered by two yellow lines, the belly is instead white with numerous black spots concentrated on the sides. The eye is black or dark brown.
