1MQ SHEET GLASS MAT
Reinforcing fibers are the mechanical structure of the composite and can be compared to steel rods in reinforced concrete
These products come with a powder or liquid binder and are developed to be used in combination with orthophthalic, isophthalic, vinyl ester, epoxy, self-extinguishing etc. resins.
Glass, the first reinforcement born on the basis of polyester resin, is still the most used in reinforced plastics. It comes from the fusion of special types of silica sand and, by means of a chain, is first spun and then stretched in order to obtain the desired diameter of the filament
A surface treatment is applied by spraying between the die and the spooler, which performs various tasks: -coating the individual threads of a lubricating film -pasting them together to form the compound thread -improving, by forming a chemical bridge, the bond with the resin favoring the speed of impregnation. The glass fibers are obtained using compound threads, cut and deposited uniformly over a plane, are tied together by a sizing, so as to form a felt having a discrete consistency. The starch is of two types: "Emulsion" and "Powder"
The first offers a better ease of handling and cutting, the second is to be used for the realization of transparent pieces, as a first layer on the Gelcoat or where greater chemical resistance is required. They are ideal for the manufacture and repair of boats, chemical agent containers, vehicle parts and sports equipment.
In these products the distribution of the glass fibers and the weaving of the mats is extremely controlled, so as to obtain: - maximum uniformity of the laminate made - easy blanching - good draping - fast impregnation and absorption of the resin - good surface compactness and high integrity of the wire
These products are supplied in reels from 100 cm to about 130 cm high with a weight oscillating between 50 and 60 kg. Kit sizes are also available, both in the fiber and in the mat, measuring 1 m2. Fiber and glass mats should be stored in a dry and clean place
It is also a good rule, for cutting and shaping operations, to unroll the reinforcement on clean surfaces.
